STEN:

Sewer Thermal Energy Network

Unlock the Potential of Sustainable Energy

The Sewer Thermal Energy Network (STEN) is a member supported network that provides advocacy, education, information dissemination, capacity building, and networking opportunities for cities, municipalities, and wastewater utilities as well as other interested entities in the use of freely available heat in sewage for heating and cooling for the built environment, from a single building to a whole district.

STEN is a leading innovator in sewer heat recovery solutions. We specialize in heat mapping, that is bridging the information gap between supply and demand to tap into the reservoir of “clean” energy lying beneath our city streets.

Saving Tax Dollars by Rethinking Wastewater Management

Sewer thermal energy is abundant and untapped. Sewage is often viewed simply as waste and is, in reality, an immense energy potential due to its quantity and temperature. Sewage heat can be a tremendous source of non-carbon energy and tapping that energy aligns with global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by capitalizing on low-emission and eco-friendly production sources. Wastewater heat is also renewable - in fact, it’s continuous - ensuring an uninterrupted heat and cooling supply for your city.
